Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (“NET”, NASDAQ: NWK) announced today the general availability of SmartSIP 2.0 for Microsoft Lync Server 2010. NET’s SmartSIP 2.0 is a software application that provides Lync voice interoperability for SIP devices, such as desktop phones, Wi-Fi devices, and cordless phones operating under the DECT standard (for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications). SmartSIP 2.0 includes functionality for determining presence for SIP devices inside of Microsoft Lync environments.

The SmartSIP application is built using Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) to address the interoperability of legacy SIP endpoints and Microsoft unified communications. SmartSIP extends enterprises’ existing SIP endpoints and reduces operating expenses by automatically provisioning the endpoints. In addition, SmartSIP 2.0’s unique architecture offers enhanced scalability and resiliency required for enterprise deployments.

The Aastra BluStar™ video conferencing solution, announced today at Enterprise Connect in Orlando, marks a new era in enterprise communications. The BluStar 8000i desktop media phone combines true HD video conferencing quality with unified communications and business applications into a powerful collaboration and easy to use device.

With its 13 inch touch screen, the Aastra BluStar 8000i provides broadcast quality video and audio, resulting in a totally “natural collaboration” experience. The product delivers true HD 720p video conferencing at a rate of 30 frames per second. The video quality is matched by superior HD sound quality, delivered via four voice tracking microphones and three speakers.

Microsoft Corp. today announced the general availability of Microsoft Lync, the next generation of communications that connects people in new ways. Starting today, anyone can download a free trial version of Lync at http://www.lync.com, and business customers can purchase Lync beginning Dec. 1.

Lync is a single platform that integrates instant messaging, presence, audio, video, webconferencing and voice to bring people together in the ways they communicate best, with one interface that works with the applications businesses know and use today, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Exchange.
